January Jiu-Jitsu Curriculum - Single Leg Takedown Finish
So now that you’ve entered the single leg takedown position it’s time to finish it! There are different types of single leg positions and lots of finishes! This month we’re working on one particular type of each. They’re basic but they work well, so study up, ask questions at class of your coaches and drill, drill, drill, so you get a feel for it!
Crucial things to remember - 1. Keep your head on your partner’s body (the “inside” vs the “outside”), 2. Keep good posture (so you should be smooshing your face on their ribcage, not the top of your head. Open your eyes and check what you’re looking at. If it’s the leg, or the ground, your posture isn’t right. If you're staring right at their gut, you’re probably in good shape), 3. Connect your shoulder to the top of their thighs while doing the previous two things, 4. Continue that downward shoulder pressure as you step back and to the side and guide their leg down in between your own legs and finish the takedown.
Get to class and practice!
